What is Reynobond?
Extremely corrosion-resistant, Reynobond is a rigid-yet-flexible material that weighs nearly two times less than pure aluminum and over three times less than steel. Exceptionally flat and distinctively colorful, architects often use it to achieve unique curved designs on building interiors and facades in both new and renovated structures.
Just like Alucobond, Reynobond is extremely weather and break-proof. It’s also vibration-damping and impact-resistant and installs quickly and easily. Chances are if the exterior of your building has a metal envelope it is either Alucobond or Reynobond.
Presto’s Reynobond Metal Panel Restoration Process
It’s been more than 25 years since we were awarded our first metal panel cleaning and restoration job. Since then, we’ve refined our processes to include specialized products and techniques to restore damaged Reynobond metal panels on numerous commercial structures.
Metal facade panels might be weatherproof, but over time, air pollutants, biological growths like mold, precast leaching, and other natural and man-made elements can stain and dull the metal surface. Unfortunately, these stains can’t be removed by standard building cleaning procedures. One of the reasons for this is that metal panels come in a wide range of finishes such as polyvinylidene fluoride, polyester paint, and fluoropolymer resins. These coatings have different degrees of hardness, making it impossible to use the same cleaning and restoration process on each one.
Even though most metal panel manufacturers suggest using a mild detergent and soft applicators like a window cleaning mop or sponge to clean the surface, this usually doesn’t work. Why? Because many commercial building owners and managers don’t make cleaning exterior metal panels a regular twice-a-year maintenance task. We often deal with panels that have gone a decade or more without any type of maintenance! Add in UV damage, and you’re dealing with a situation where the coating’s surface has degraded.
A Better Reynobond Cleaning & Restoration Solution
Fortunately, you can return your building’s metal panels to their optimal appearance with one of two effective restoration services:
- Abrasive methods
- Pigmented or clear coatings
True to their name, abrasive methods scratch the Reynobond surface. In most cases, the scratches are so fine they’re invisible to the naked eye. Presto uses the finest abrasives possible to achieve the sought-after effect. We also conduct a performance test to ensure the desired results are achieved on the entire building. Restoration test area results are compared to untreated panels to determine how much better the restored panels look than they would with metal panel cleaning alone.
If the Reynobond restoration process doesn’t produce the hoped-for results, there are evident scratches, or the panel’s coating’s been worn down to the bare metal, we then apply clear coatings designed to hide a wide variety of coating damages. Presto’s specially-formulated and high-performing silicone and acrylic coatings offer long-lasting protection on all metal surfaces. The results are typically beautiful!
In cases where the factory coating has failed all the way through (or if the coating was previously restored and is now showing the aluminum surface below), the only workable solution is to use new pigmented coating on the metal panels. The downside to this solution is that it typically calls for future maintenance and or reapplication sooner than bare panels do.
